The answer is no. No one needs an iPad but technically no one needs an iPhone either and look how well that went over. A need has a very specific definition:

a lack of something wanted or deemed necessary: to fulfill a desire or want.

Hmmm. That seems to have back fired. Maybe I do need an iPad afterall. Gizmodo has gotten all of the what’s how’s and how muches of the iPad locked down but to sum it up here’s what the iPad can do:

1. Size – Imagine if you shrank in size about 10% and then held your iPhone (that or if your iphone got bigger i guess). The iPad is about 10inches big and .5 inches thick – weighing in at about 1.5lbs.
2. Navigating - The iPad has all of the touch functionality of the iPhone. It also uses the same “app” like functionality of the phone and does not have windows like an iMac or MacBook.
3. Battery Life – This is a strong feature of the iPad because it is supposed to last 10hrs even when watching movies.

What can I do with it?

This new product actually does everything your phone can do – minus taking pictures – and makes it easier because of it’s enhanced screen size. It even has a new accompanying store called iBook that puts amazons kindle service to shame. You can purchase the iPad with just wi-fi access (much like an iPod touch) or you can buy an iPad with wi-fi plus 3G. This will of course be running on AT&T’s already shakey network which isn’t much of a perk if you ask me.

This device looks awesome. It has a lot of potential for cool uses and the oooooo …. ahhhhhh factor is huge. Besides that I’d say you can make due with your iPhone unless you have an extra $700-ish bucks burning a hole in your pocket. But if that’s the case I guess you could always donate it to Hati.

Yep i’ve figured it out. The real benefit Macs have over PC’s is that nifty Doc at the bottom of the screen that allows you to work with all of your documents and programs with ease. Now if only I had one of those I wouldn’t need to switch to Mac. Like superman rescuing a baby from a burning building Rocket Dock comes in to save the day.

You may have read my previous article which spawned this one: 5 Reasons to switch from PC to Mac but the results are in and I’m not switching! There are a lot of reasons that working on a PC gives you an advantage over working on a Mac and i’ll outline my top 5 here:

1. Software is KING!

When it comes to mainstream software there usually are Mac and PC versions but some software suppliers don’t make Mac versions (also note some Mac suppliers don’t make PC versions). This is a double edged sword no matter which platform (Mac or PC) you prefer but with the number of PC vs Mac users you are usually tilted in the PC’s favor … which lead me to my next point…

2. EVERYONE has a PC

Everyone is a little bit of an overstatement these days as Mac continues to gain ground within the personal computing arena but most companies and people use PC’s. Even when going from Mac to PC on popular software platforms such as Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint) there have been compatibility issues so it’s easier to stay on one platform than to switch back and forth and PC usually wins this battle (unless you work in marketing or something and everyone in your office has a mac).

3. Windows 7 is Microsoft’s best Operating system yet

With the birth of Microsoft’s new baby Windows 7 people are finding fewer reasons to switch over to Mac. Windows 7 boasts new features and ease of use that other windows platforms did not have. It also is said to solve many of the annoying problems of it’s older brother Windows Vista.

4. Price Price Price Price

Macs are great computers but when it comes to pure hardware you get less bang for your buck. A mac laptop starts at around 1000 for the bare minimum specs when you could get a mid to upper range PC for the same amount. When it comes to raw Power per buck PC wins every time.

5. Apple works with Apple but not always other Gadgets

Apple has had many issues working with other components that are not apple products. Some things as simple as HP printers have had multiple issues syncing and working with apple products. Sometimes external devices such as printers don’t make the drivers (or make them correctly) to work with apple computers. This fear makes people continually buy apple products which are always more expensive than their other brand counter parts.

These are the 5 main reasons why I won’t switch to Apple. It’d be a fun toy to play with but as my main computer I’ll stick with PC for now. If the apple revolution ever overtakes the work place then maybe i’ll write an article about why i switched. But until then PC rules the world!

How this betters your life: You’ll finally be one of the cool kids at the coffee shop!

What you need: About a thousand dollars … or a thousand Mac Bucks (as apple is currently making their own currency)

The debate continually rages on … PC or Mac … Microsoft or Apple … it’s a real chicken or egg type scenario. Honestly I’m a fan of both companies and their products (and may get shot for saying it) for different reasons. This post however will outline the 5 main reasons why I would consider switching to a Mac computer from this PC dominated world:

1. Macs are Cleaner

Everything about a mac just oozes smoothness. Compare a Mac Desktop to a PC Desktop and you’ll automatically notice the lack of wires protruding from the back of the Mac. PC’s usually have a jungle of wires associated with them and don’t seem as well … pretty. Macs have also created a line up of green computers that are very energy efficient.

2. The software is made FUBU style (For Us By Us)

The software that Macs come pre-installed with is made by apple so it is tuned to work very efficiently with the system. There are very many different companies that make some of the software that comes pre-installed on PC’s causing them to slow down to a crawl at times.

3. Once you learn the OS it’s easy to use

The Mac OS was created with users in mind. Not that the average mac user is computer illiterate or anything but the OS has basically been dummy proofed so you don’ t have to worry about the how to’s when working with the Mac.

4. You automatically become 20% cooler in the Artsy World

Much like that cherry red sports car you always wanted as a teenager Macs carry a certain “cool factor” with them. In certain circles if you don’t have a Mac you may as well not speak. Many (artists, designers, musicians) claim that Macs are “better” or “easier to use” than PC’s are.

5. Apple things work well together

Working with different Apple made gadgets is like mixing apples with … well apples. Everything is seamless because it is made by the same company. Apple computers work well with apple routers … apple printers … apple wireless airport adapters. Basically Apple loves Apple (not to say that it doesn’t work with other hardware).
