The picture doesn’t have much to do about technlogy but hey it’s pretty smooth in my opinion – and what’s smoother than having a dedicated channel on your HD TV to search the internet - (probably a lot for the less dorky out there).

It’s all about connections:

Just like most things in life: Getting a job, getting a date, or just having fun in general it’s all about your connections. In order to see the best way to connect the two devices you spend the most time with (besides your cell phone) you have to see what kind of connections they have. The most popular connection types are:

1. HDMI – which will give you the best quality.
2. S-Video – which is fairly standard.
3. VGA – What you use to connect any computer monitor.

These days HDMI is included on most laptops so all you have to do is purchase an HDMI cable and plug and play. This is the case for most of these connection types so see what kind of connection your computer is sporting, buy that kind of cable, and you’re all set.

Different computers might have different options when it comes to sending the signal through the cable. If your plug and play doesn’t work let me know and i’ll find out what you have to do to get er done right.

Oh yea. If you really want to have an awesome set up make sure to include a wireless mouse and keyboard to avoid the death traps that wires provide.

First Off I want to congratulate you for reading the first post since the blog has gotten it’s brand spanking new domain name:

Honestly I really wanted to buy IT4u.com because it’s so smooth and easy going but it was a “premium” domain which costs $2500 dollars. It’s a good name but it’s not that good.

Which leads me to today’s post … What exactly is a domain name, how do you get one, and whats the big deal? Well everyone, who uses the internet, essentially knows what a domain name is but they may not know that they know. A domain name is basically whatever you enter in the address bar of your internet browser. For example www.google.com is a domain name (which we all know and love).

You can think of the domain name as the address to the place you want to go online.

If you want to get a domain name you simply go to a domain name registrar (like godaddy.com who I use) and buy one. There are many different places you can buy a domain name but I like to buy the domain and hosting from the same place just to make it easier to work with. Which brings up the question What exactly is hosting?

Well if the domain name is the address to your website the hosting is where the website actually lives or the apartment for your website. By purchasing hosting you are basically renting out space that will hold your website. I also purchase my hosting from godaddy.com but there are many great hosting companies out there like:

• Fat Cow
• Lunar Pages
• Blue Host
• Host Monster

There are many other companies out there but this is a few of them. Some website development companies offer domain name and hosting packages when they create a website (such as mine domain name/hosting for $50/year … shameless plug I know).

Needed for this soluiton: A wii, The need to surf the internet on your TV with a Wii

These days game consoles aren’t worth very much if all they can do is play games. The Wii has revolutionized the way people play games in todays world but the Wii can also revolutionize the way you access the internet. The Wii internet channel has been recently backed by Opera which is a famous web browser. This enables you to go on your Wii and access the internet as long as your wii is connected to your home network.

Easy Steps are as follows:

1. Make sure your Wii is connected to your home network
2. Go to the wii shop channel
3. Find the Wii Internet channel
4. Buy it (although it’s free so it charges you nothing)

Once you have the Wii internet channel you can surf the internet just like on your computer. One thing that is unfortunate is that the browser does not use the latest version of flash so sites like hulu don’t stream video correctly. Other than that you have a fully functional web browser from your wii.

*standard wireless keyboards also work with the wii so you can plug them in via USB into the back of your wii. Definately advise this.
