Computers Crash – FACT!
One Thing you need to understand. Computers crash. Not often but it happens. Second thing you need to understand is that if you have anything remotely important (for some it’s business documents for others it’s music) on your computer you need to have a back up system. It’s basically like car insurance – No one wants to pay for it but when you need it you’re glad that you have it.
On that token an awesome back up solution that I found (and it’s free for up to 2GB) is Mozy. Mozy is excellent because it is an online solution that completely removes you from the equation – and did I mention it’s free – almost as cool as winning free stuff. All you have to do is download and install the software. Mozy backs up your computer to a secure online server and if your computer ever fails you can retrieve your files from Mozy!
I seriously advise giving this a try.

I actually used Mozy for a few months last year to back up all of my massive and super important photos. I read the fine print and soon realized they only back up your most current hard drive. It is NOT a storage site. If you upload files to their servers and then delete them from your hard drive to free up space, Mozy will follow suit and delete them from their server 30 days after you do. So if you are looking for storage space to free up your hard drive, this is NOT the place to look.
HOWEVER, if you just want peace of mind and a temporary back up solution in case of a devastating hard drive crash, or accidentally deleting a ton of folders, I’d say it’s a pretty good solution. Initial uploads took hours, however, daily backups were much faster. It’s more like insurance. You might end up pouring $$ into a hole that you never use, but in an emergency, it’s worth it. Just thought I’d share some pros and cons for everyone to weigh.
Wowwww! Thanks for the info. I just started using mozy as a back up for my files on my hard drive. I guess if your moving files in and out it’s not the best archival system but it just takes snapshots of what you currently have on your computer. Thanks for the valuable input!!
Thanks for the comment, Jeremy! Will you please be my personal IT guy? It would mean a lot
Obviously Clare – “IT for You” Who else did you think I was talking about
