What’s required for this solution: As of this writting an iPhone or Android Phone
How this Benefits your life: No need to type in a Google search to find local attractions, restaurants, or bars around your current location.
Google’s always coming out with something new and exciting. Their new – “Near Me Now” feature allows you to find local Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Bars, or Banks (among other things) around your current location. Check out the video they put on you tube to demonstrate it’s usefulness.
But is it True?
When companies make an ad for their product they always make it seem really great but how great/easy to use is this feature really? I decided to test it out for myself and relay the results to you all.
I’m testing this on my iPhone 3GS which needs to have at least the 3.0 operating system on it. You can check this by looking under your settings -> general -> about -> version.
Anyway, I browse to google on my safari internet browser and expect to see the Near Me Now feature as advertised … No where to be found. I read a little further into the article and see you have to turn on a location setting so I click settings on google mobile and select the “Allow use of device location” option. Once I click save … Magically the Near me now feature appears …
Now onto testing:
Sitting in my room I want to know where is a place to eat that is near me but I haven’t been to in a long time (or ever). I hit the near me link and click restaurants. Ahhhh Nawab Indian Cuisine. I’ve actually been meaning to go here again. I went there months ago and it was really good. So survey says it’s a useful application and I think you get the gist without me listing 7 ways to use it.
But the title was catchy huh
. Until Next Time. Stay Classy San Diego.
